TUESDAY 5/20 AFTERNOON UPDATE
If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Our tech team has been working on even more tweaks based on your feedback, and have optimized the site for Safari and the default Android browser. They're continuing to work on the same for both Chrome and Opera as well. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what hit the site this afternoon:
-Our new roundtable this afternoon takes a look at which fight Eddie Alvarez should take to close out his Bellator run, given he's now got an option between the contractually obligated bout with Michael Chandler, or a fight with new Interim Champion Will Brooks. There seems to be an agreement that a fight with Brooks might be the smarter route, and it depends on what he decides is best for him. Excerpt from Rich Hansen: “If I were in Bjorn Rebney's position, I'd release Alvarez from his contract today and let him sign wherever he wanted to sign, unimpeded, effective immediately, with the only condition being a full gag order. The damage Alvarez would do to Bellator's last shreds of credibility would be huge were he to defeat Brooks, or to a lesser extent Chandler. Just not worth it. Clearly Rebney wants to stick it to Alvarez, but barring that, he should be satisfied with the status quo and a gag order that keeps Alvarez from disparaging Bellator for the next few years.” Get the full roundtable in the main listing at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser.
-Urijah Faber discussed some tension with the exiting Duane Ludwig, and why it wasn't working for them at Team Alpha Male entirely. He said there were some things they didn't see eye to eye on from the business end of things, but he gave Ludwig credit for his coaching skills. See his full quote with some other analysis in the main listing now.
-An injury to Rani Yahya has brought a change to next month's UFC Fight Night 44 card in San Antonio, Texas, as Cody Gibson is in against Johnny Bedford. Get info on the new fight booking in the main listing.
-Dan Moore's got information up now for the UFC 173 prediction and betting contests, so head to the main listing now to see how you can take part in the games.
-Finally, the second episode of “UFC Embedded” is now online, taking a behind the scenes look at Daniel Cormier, Dan Henderson, and Dana White in advance of Saturday's UFC 173 event.
We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!
