Bridgestone slick compounds available: Front: Soft, Medium, Hard. Rear: Medium, Hard (Asymmetric)
Bridgestone wet tyre compounds available: Hard (Main), Soft (Alternative)

This year’s San Marino and Rimini Grand Prix was won by Yamaha Factory Racing’s Jorge Lorenzo who continued his excellent record at a circuit where he has never finished off the podium in his MotoGP™ career.

Conditions this year at Misano varied considerably over the race weekend. Friday and Saturday were affected by rain and wind, though a change in the weather on Saturday afternoon ensured that qualifying, morning warm up and the race took place in dry conditions. The limited dry running time before Sunday meant tyre choice for the race was the same for every rider on the grid, with the softer rear and harder front slick being selected by all twenty-one riders lining up on the grid.

Trackside Tuesday: A Tale of Two Teammates

If you were writing a script for a blockbuster movie based on MotoGP, you would be off to a great start with a premise centered on Tech 3′s current riders: Cal Crutchlow and Andrea Dovizioso. This current season would be the backstory, perhaps told in flashbacks or in a montage behind the opening titles. Next season is where the drama would unfold in earnest, as each character pursues a World Championship on a different team. ...

A decisive moment in the Championship points, the Czech GP already dashed the hopes of Casey Stoner, who after consulting with his Doctors back in Australia, was advised to sit out the Czech round and return back to Oz for surgery on the ankle he injured last weekend at Indianapolis. Notes From A Small Island: The 2012 Isle of Man TT

A crash at 142mph is fairly reasonable in anyone's book. At Mugello, Silverstone, Brno it would be noted and not given a second thought. A slide across the track, maybe, and into some welcoming gravel. On Mona's Isle, however, it is a different story.

Simon Andrews crashed at that speed on Saturday. He misjudged his velocity on the entry to Graham Memorial and ran out of two-lane blacktop. After hitting a bank and laying in the road for probably longer than was entirely necessary, he was taken to hospital with nothing more than a broken ankle, wrist, shoulder and blood in his eyes. He should be dead.

But this is the Isle of Man. A place where Giacomo Agostini raced Mike Hailwood raced Phil Read, once upon a time. It was a Grand Prix. Not so now as the dangers of the place proved too much and Barry Sheene, who did just one lap of the place on a 125, was instrumental in it being removed from the calendar.

Heroes are made here. But they are only heroes in certain places. John McGuinness has now won 19 TT races. Those who follow MotoGP in Spain will have no idea who the man is but McPint does six laps of the 37.73-mile circuit at average speed of 129mph. Read it again. Average speed. On normal roads. His lap record is 131.5mph and tomorrow it will fall, so long as the rain doesn't intervene.

Third Victory, Lorenzo Stay on the Top Championship

Jorge Lorenzo Catalunya 2012

Jorge Lorenzo took his third victory of the season after wins the home Catalunya GP yesterday. Lorenzo made a great race on a battle with his compatriot Dani Pedrosa.

Lorenzo said, “I’m really happy with this victory as it was a very tough weekend. We performed a lot better than yesterday as in qualifying it was very hot. The grip on the track after the rain this morning was also not so great. "

He continue, "At the beginning of the race when I was following Ben and Dani it was very easy to make a mistake under braking and touch them so I waited calmly for my opportunity. When Ben made a mistake I moved up. I followed Dani and watched him, he slowed his pace and eventually made a mistake so I was able to pass him then give it full throttle. "

"Thank you so much to Yamaha and my team for working hard to make a great bike for today’s victory.” said Lorenzo again

Marc Marquez Has Penalty For Espargaro Crash Overturned On Appeal

The 1 minute penalty Marc Marquez had been handed by Race Direction has been revoked. Marquez was initially penalized after an incident on lap 21 of the Moto2 race at Barcelona, in which he and Pol Espargaro collided, causing Espargaro to crash out of the race. The incident was reviewed by Race Direction, and several hours after the Moto2 race was over, Race Direction issued the 1 minute penalty. Marquez' CatalunyaCaixa team appealed to the FIM Stewards against the penalty, and the FIM Stewards ruled in his favor, overturning it. The penalty would have meant that Marquez dropped from 3rd to 23rd in the final results, scoring no points for the championship.

The incident occurred on lap 21 of the race. Marquez had run a little hot into Turn 10 after being passed by Thomas Luthi, then saved a near crash with the front folding, before forcing his bike back to the inside of the turn, just as Espargaro was trying to pass him. Espargaro had nowhere to go, and he and Marquez collided, causing Espargaro to crash. Marquez went on to finish the race in 3rd, behind Andrea Iannone and Thomas Luthi.

ROUNDTABLE: Thoughts on Brock Lesnar potentially returning to the UFC while still with WWE

LesnarBrock_180_24.jpg
What are your thoughts on Brock Lesnar potentially returning to the UFC while still being involved with the WWE?

RICH HANSEN, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

Don't know. Don't care. Loved Brock's impact on the UFC, but right now he's a ghost. If there's a seance that brings him back to life (and by life I mean "to the UFC") ask me then. As for now, I have as much interest in Brock Lesnar as I have in any other retired mixed martial artist.

FRANK HYDEN, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

I don't think it would be a good move; I think it would be a brilliant move. It's a win-win for all involved. The first thing we all need to do is throw out the idea of Brock ever challenging for the UFC Heavyweight Title, that's not going to happen. Brock would have to make tremendous strides in his game, and it doesn't look like time is on his side. If the UFC approaches this like Brock is a special attraction that they could use to help move some PPVs, they've got the right idea. This is much the same way that the UFC should have used Kimbo Slice as a special attraction to help garner viewers on their free TV cards. The UFC should partner any potential Brock fight with fights featuring great, but relatively unknown UFC fighters. That way they up the profile of those guys and expose them to many more eyeballs. WWE benefits by having a UFC fighter around sometimes for big matches and the UFC benefits by wrestling fans interested in seeing Brock fight.

ERIC HOBAUGH, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

I know the UFC needs Lesnar back in order to sell pay-per-views. Alistair Overeem is out of action until next year. GSP is out until much later this year. Anderson Silva may be out of his title fight with Sonnen because of a leg injury. Vitor Belfort is out of his fight with Wanderlei Silva because he broke his hand. That is all really bad news for the UFC and the buy rates for pay-per-views the rest of 2012. I have never hid my feelings about Lesnar I am not a fan. I am a huge fan of MMA and the UFC though. Right now they both need Lesnar. If the UFC can get Lesnar to fight two times this year then they should. Who else can they bring in that will have an immediate impact on the sport? I think they will bring him in and give him easier fights like Roy Nelson or even Stefan Struve. I do not think the fact that Lesnar is still in the WWE will factor into the UFC's decision to bring him back.

GRIFFIN MARSH, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

I'm all for Brock doing both. I have a hard time seeing Dana allowing it to happen, but hypothetically, I'd love to see him do both. He's talented at both. Being an actor and a fighter could give him exactly what he wants out of life. So I guess my final answer is: POWER TO YA BROCK, should you decide to do both Sports Entertainment and UFC.

BRAD WALKER, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

I think its a WWE marketing hoax. Vince McMahon does not like talent to appear in other organizations, like CM Punk trying to walk out with Chael Sonnen in January. I think its being used as an advertising tactic by WWE maybe with the permission of Dana White or perhaps without. Either way the only fight for him if he returns is the final trifecta war with Frank Mir.

ALEX WILLIAMS, MMATORCH CONTRIBUTOR

The UFC brass should sign Brock Lesnar to fight on their next FOX card, as well as in a pay-per-view rubber match against Frank Mir. Not signing Lesnar doesn't make sense in terms of short-term profit, nor in terms of preserving the FOX deal. All this assumes, of course, that Lesnar is legally able to compete in the UFC.

DAN MOORE, MMATORCH UK CONTRIBUTOR

Brock Lesnar was in attendance at the MGM Arena on Saturday night for one reason only, and that's self promotion. I can't see how his personal circumstances and health issues have changed so much since he made his decision last December. I am in no way a fan of WWE but I know enough to say that Vince McMahon is a very astute businessman. Having Lesnar show up anywhere causes interest, so having him show up at an all Heavyweight UFC card is nothing but free and easy promotion for a fading company. I'm bored of reading MMA stories surrounding Brock Lesnar, and hopefully this one dies a quick death before the week is out. For the record I'd rather watch a game of Baseball!

JASON AMADI, MMATORCH COLUMNIST

First of all, I'm fairly certain that this isn't actually going to happen. From what I've gathered, it sounds like Brock Lesnar may have just been posturing to get a bit more out of his deal with WWE.

That being said, I can't imagine why WWE would even allow Lesnar to fight while under contract. If Lesnar books a fight with the UFC, he'll be unavailable for about three months for his camp and then a bit afterward for recovery. That's a long time that he'd be off the table and if he actually loses for the third time in a row (fourth time if you count John Cena) it would really hurt his image from a pro wrestling perspective.

From an MMA fan's perspective, who even cares? The book has been written on what Lesnar can and can't do in MMA. He hasn't gotten any better at fighting since he retired and he isn't getting any younger either. We already know Lesnar would get thoroughly trounced by guys like Junior dos Santos, Cain Velasquez, Alistair Overeem and Daniel Cormier. Hell, at this point I think Mark Hunt would beat him too.

The whole Brock Lesnar/UFC ship has sailed for me and as a fight fan, I could do without the distraction.

2012 Catalunya MotoGP FP2 Result: Lorenzo Smashes Race Lap Record As Hondas Struggle

Jorge Lorenzo sits atop the timesheets after the first day of practice for the MotoGP class, the Factory Yamaha rider having controlled the afternoon session with ease, smashing the Barcelona race lap record in the attempt. Yamaha riders had a monopoly over the top of the timesheet for much of the session, with all 4 Yamahas sitting in the top 5 at one point. But times tumbled towards the end of the session, allowing a few interlopers to intervene.

San Carlo Gresini's Alvaro Bautista grabbed the 2nd spot, two tenths of a second behind Lorenzo, the Spaniard posting a strong performance throughout FP2. The Monster Tech 3 Yamahas followed, Cal Crutchlow staying ahead of Andrea Dovizioso, while Pramac Ducati's Hector Barbera inserted himself between the Tech 3 bikes and Ben Spies to grap 5th. Spies, who had a good session throughout, found himself in 6th, just ahead of Dani Pedrosa, the first of the factory Hondas. Both Pedrosa and Casey Stoner (10th) failed to make an impact, though both stuck with the harder option tires which may have had an effect. Stefan Bradl bagged 8th place, while Nicky Hayden took 9th, and was the last rider to finish within a second of Lorenzo.
