Former WEC announcer Joe Martinez tapped for octagon debut at UFC on FX 6

Former WEC announcer Joe Martinez will soon make his octagon debut.

Martinez recently revealed to Examiner.com that he has been hired for in-cage duties at next month's UFC on FX 6 event, which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 15 in Australia but due to the time difference airs live in the U.S. on Friday night.

Promotion mainstay Bruce Buffer is set for his familiar announcing role that same weekend at The Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale.

UFC on FOX 14: Watch “First Person” With Alexander Gustafsson

Alexander Gustafsson is set to compete for the first time in approximately ten months on Saturday, and he certainly doesn’t have a warm-up fight booked for him at UFC on FOX 14. The Swedish star will take on fellow, light-heavyweight contender Anthony Johnson at the January 24th event, and he’ll get to do so, in […]

Alexander Gustafsson to meet Anthony Johnson in Sweden

The UFC announced Wednesday the makings of a monster card on Fox for January, with the main event pitting Alexander Gustafsson against Anthony Johnson with the winner earning the next shot at the UFC light heavyweight title.

The bout will be on Jan. 24 in Stockholm, Sweden, at Tele2 Arena in Sweden, a dome which can hold in excess of 30,000 fans for soccer and likely more for mixed martial arts. It willl be shown live nationally in the U.S. on Fox.

The No. 1-ranked Gustafsson was supposed to rematch champion Jon Jones for the belt in the main event of UFC 178 in Las Vegas on Sept. 27, but had to pull out because of a knee injury. He'll know fight the No. 3-ranked Johnson for the right to meet the winner of the Jan. 3 championship bout between Jones and No. 2 Daniel Cormier that is behind held in Las Vegas.

"This is going to be an epic event,” Gustafsson said in a statement released by the UFC. “I want more than 30,000 fans to come and witness me win on Jan. 24. Then I’m going to go and get the title. My journey back to the top starts now."

Anthony Johnson is ranked No. 3 among UFC light heavyweights. (AP Photo/Jeff Chiu, File)Johnson, who was recently reinstated by the UFC after allegations of domestic violence against him could not be proven, said he is eager to challenge Gustafsson in Gustafsson's home country.

Johnson is coming off a decisive victory over Phil Davis in the co-main event of UFC 172 and a first-round knockout of Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at UFC on Fox in San Jose on July 26.

"This fight might be on his home turf, but I’m ready to go over to Sweden and prove that I’m the next in the line for the UFC light heavyweight title,” Johnson said in a statement. “I’m not intimidated by fighting in front of Alex’s hometown fans. I’m going to go in there and look for the knockout like I do in all of my fights. I can’t wait for this."

The co-main event features Dan Henderson's return to middleweight against Gegard Mousasi. Matt Brown will meet former Strikeforce champion Tarec Saffiedine on the main card.

1/9 MORNING UPDATE: Pettis says his wrestling better than Nurmagomedov's striking; Henderson takes cracks at Jones on cocaine issue; Rampage wants more KOs in UFC return; Silva-Weidman III poll results

Anthony_Pettis_wide_banner_35.jpg

1/9 MORNING UPDATE

If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site this morning:

-UFC Lightweight Champ Anthony Pettis gave a critical take on the skills of potential 2015 challenger Khabib Nurmagomedov, and said that compared to where his own wrestling game is at, Nurmagomedov's striking is “amateur.” Head to our mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser for more of Pettis' rundown along with further analysis.

-Dan Henderson, who hasn't hid his feelings about UFC Light Heavyweight Champ Jon Jones, took aim at him due to Jones entering rehab this week, getting in some shots at the Champ's expense. That included his line on why he felt staying away from cocaine may be the reason for his longevity. Get his comments with further analysis on the mobile site now.

-Rampage Jackson says his goal in returning to the UFC is to get some exciting matchups and add more knockouts to his highlight reel. He also commented on why he had been upset at getting booked against wrestlers when he left the UFC in the first place. Catch those comments with further analysis on the mobile site now.

-In our morning poll, we asked readers whether or not they were actually interested in seeing a third Anderson Silva-Chris Weidman fight if the UFC booked it this year. Votes were pretty split, with 42% very interested because Silva broke his leg in the last fight, another 26% tentatively on board depending on how he beats Diaz if that happens, and the last 32% saying there were more interesting fights available for Weidman.

We thank all of our readers for their feedback and patience as we continue making improvements on the new mobile site. We're an independent voice in the MMA space with no corporate backing, and as such we stay afloat on ad revenue. This shift to the full listing on mobile web brings us a better chance to keep ourselves going and to bring our readers everything we61 have for the last five years and more, as the mobile advertising market is simply stronger than that on the app. Continue sending us your feedback to mmatorch@gmail.com and let us know how the new features with the Disqus comments section and more are working for you on mobile web!

Anderson Silva signs 15 fight deal with UFC, for some reason

Anderson Silva is coming off of a horrific leg injury, nearing 40 years old, and would have still had seven fights left on his UFC contract after fighting Nick Diaz in early 2015. Still, the fighter told Globo that he just signed a new fifteen fight contract with the promotion last week before UFC 179 because, well...you know.

Actually, we ourselves don't and can't understand why that was necessary. In any case, Silva did it, and he says he did it to get under the skin of UFC president Dana White and his own family.

I was with [UFC co-owner] Lorenzo [Fertitta] and Dana [White] on Thursday now, and the old contract was torn up. We signed for another fifteen fights," he revealed.

"To make Dana crazy, I signed for 15 more fights. And to make my family crazy, too."

In other "Spider" contract news, the fighter says that he is no longer sponsored by Nike, but that he's currently in negotiations with Addidas. "I was always a Nike fan, I like the brand. The company gave me an opportunity to fulfill a dream," he said.

"Thanks to [soccer star] Ronaldo and [soccer team] Corinthians, I was able to work with Nike...It was great, I liked it a lot. I’ll miss them, always remember it.

"We’re in a good relationship with Adidas now. There’s nothing done, we’ll see what happens in the future."

1/5 NIGHT UPDATE: Cerrone in for Alvarez against Henderson next week; Jones said he wanted to gain wrestling community's respect at UFC 182; more

1/5 NIGHT UPDATE

If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site today:

-In a shocking turn of events, Eddie Alvarez is out of his fight with Benson Henderson, and Donald Cerrone is stepping in on 12 days notice in the UFC Fight Night 59 co-main event. This will be the third fight between Cerrone and Henderson, following their two fights five years ago in the WEC. Head to our mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser for more on the switch with more thoughts on Cerrone taking that fight.

-Jon Jones said this weekend that one of the driving forces into his fight with Daniel Cormier was a desire to gain respect from the wrestling community. Catch his comments with further analysis on the mobile site.

-Luke Rockhold, Daniel Cormier's teammate and one of his key training partners into UFC 182, expressed his disappointment in Cormier's performance, and said Cormier looked a bit like a deer in the headlights at times in the fight. See what Rockhold had to say, along with further thoughts, on the mobile site.

-Matt Brown, in need of a new opponent for UFC Fight Night 60, said he's open to anyone the UFC is willing to put in front of him. He named Rory MacDonald, Hector Lombard, and Carlos Condit as preferences, but is willing to fight absolutely anyone. See his comments with further thoughts on the mobile site.

-Ben Askren this week commented on Dana White's continued statements about him not wanting to fight in the UFC, saying everything White has said on the matter is “blatant lies.” Head to the mobile site for Askren's thoughts with further analysis.

-Another change to UFC Fight Night 59 hit today, as newcomer Louis Taylor is in for an injured Costas Philippou against Uriah Hall in Boston. More on the switch on the mobile site.

CM Punk signs multi-fight deal with UFC

Phil “CM Punk” Brooks has signed a multi-fight deal with Ultimate Fighting Championship and will make his Octagon debut in 2015, the promotion announced Saturday night.Phil CM Punk Brooks will fight in the UFC in 2015. (Photo by Duane Prokop/Getty Images)

The UFC teased a big announcement following the first match of the UFC 181 pay-per-view portion and delivered. Joe Rogan interviewed Brooks cageside at the Mandalay Bay Events Center. Brooks, 36, wasn’t sure of a weight class yet, but said both middleweight and welterweight were options.

“I have a background in kempo and I’ve been doing Brazilian jiu-jitsu for a long time," Brooks told Rogan. "This is my new career, 100-percent. I'm going to go full steam ahead, all systems go after today, and it's going to be fun. I have nothing but respect for everybody here at the UFC, everybody who steps in the Octagon to fight. And when it's all said and done, when I'm finished, everybody's going to have to respect me because I have come here to fight."

The former WWE champion has made headlines last week for a series of podcast interviews where he ripped Vince McMahon’s company for how he was treated during his eight years as a performer. The WWE fired Brooks earlier this year and he has now stated on multiple occasions that he has no intentions of ever returning.

That opens the door for mixed martial arts, a sport that Brooks has followed closely while competing in the WWE. He’s no stranger to UFC pay-per-views and has made several “Gracie Breakdown” cameos alongside friend and Gracie Jiu-Jitsu instructor Rener Gracie.

“I felt like it was now or never," Brooks added. "I have a limited window most fighters don't have. I'm either here to win or get my ass kicked.

What kind of impact will the 6-foot-2 Brooks have in UFC? It's hard to say until he settles on a weight class and trainer. In terms of being a pay-per-view draw, there's only one Brock Lesnar, so we can stop with that comparison.

But Brooks will be able to attract new eyeballs to the sport and the UFC should see a noticeable spike during his debut fight. Before he left the WWE, Brooks developed a cult following and was easily one of the most popular wrestlers on the roster.

Plus, let’s not forget one of the reasons why Brooks’ popularity surged was his gift of gab on the microphone. As Conor McGregor has proven in 2014, you can get a long way in MMA if you know how to turn it “on” for the cameras.

Dana White hit a home run the last time he brought over a former WWE champion. We shall see if White's latest pro wrestling investment will once again deliver.

Luke Rockhold and Michael Bisping bicker on camera

UFC middleweights Luke Rockhold (12-2) and Michael Bisping (25-6) will face off Nov. 8 in the main event of UFC Fight Night: Sydney, and the two rivals sat down with Ultimate Insider host Jon Anik recently to promote the bout (video above). They did a good job.

Hard core fans may remember that Rockhold's beef with Bisping goes back a couple years to when the almost always classless "Count" broke the fighter's gym code of keeping what happens in training, secret, when he insinuated that he badly beat Rockhold up in a sparring session. Rockhold has lobbied for a fight with Bisping to get back at the British star, and will get his wish next month in Australia.

In the above interview with Anik, Bisping mocked Rockhold's sensitivity to his insulting remarks, two years ago. "You're so sensitive about it," Bisping said.

"I made an off-the-cuff remark."

At that point, Rockhold retorted by clarifying, "A tasteless remark."

"My hands were on my knees for two rounds straight and you couldn't do a damn thing in the best shape of your life, as I'm switching my stance," Rockhold continued.

"It's a sparring session. That's all it is. Why did you even talk about it?"

At present, Rockhold is a huge favorite over Bisping. The former Strikeforce middleweight champion has lost only once (to Vitor Belfort) since 2007, whereas Bisping is 3-3 in his last six bouts.

"I will stop Michael Bisping and there's a number of ways it's going to be done," Rockhold concluded.

"I'm not really looking to take him down. Definitely not a submission, that's not punishment enough for this guy."

Check out Bisping's last fight - a nasty TKO win over Cung Le - below, and then let us know if you think he can pull off the upset over Rockhold, in the comments section!

1/1 NIGHT UPDATE: Roundtable on 2014's Fighter of the Year; Lawler-Hendricks III next; White says UFC getting away from drug testing plans; McGregor to get Aldo with win this month

1/1 NIGHT UPDATE

If you're tuning in to the App for the first time in a while, make sure to check out the big update on the App's home page for notes and information on the changes made to the new mobile site at MMATorch.com in your mobile browser. Keep sending your thoughts in to mmatorch@gmail.com so we can make the mobile site the best experience for you! We truly appreciate the feedback, and we're making changes as necessary. Here's what's on the site tonight:

-In a new roundtable tonight, the crew gives their thoughts on who should go down as 2014's “Fighter of the year”. Excerpt from Dan Moore: “I wouldn't normally consider anyone for this award who's had a loss in the previous twelve months, but it's hard to look beyond Robbie Lawler this year. He lost a ridiculously good fight by a slender margin, and then bounced back to secure another title shot with wins over Jake Ellenberger and Matt Brown. Finally, he finished off the year by clinching his first ever UFC Title in another very good fight. Honorable mention to T.J. Dillashaw, who's a close runner-up, but my Fighter of the Year goes to Robbie Lawler.” Head to our mobile site at MMATorch.com in your phone or tablet browser for the full roundtable.

-Speaking of Robbie Lawler, his next fight is going to come against Johny Hendricks (again). UFC President Dana White said tonight that's the direction they're heading. Head to the mobile site for more thoughts on that matchup coming next.

-In other Dana White comments from today, he says they're going away from plans to implement year-round drug testing after their legal team erred in the handling of Cung Le's drug test in August. See his comments with further analysis on the move on the mobile site.

-Finally, Conor McGregor will be next for Jose Aldo if he beats Dennis Siver at UFC Fight Night 59 this month. More on that on the mobile site.

Cagewriter's most popular posts in 2014

MMA produced more than its share of interesting stories in 2014 and we covered it all here at Cagewriter. Here are the 20 most-clicked posts of 2014:

1. Ronda Rousey gets put on the spot after quick win (July 6)
Perhaps unsurprisingly, the most-trafficked Cagewriter post of 2014 revolved around the UFC's queen bee. Moments after defending her bantamweight title at UFC 175 with a 16-second KO of Alexis Davis, Rousey was asked by UFC commentator Joe Rogan if she would be willing to fight again in three weeks' time to fill a main-event void. Ever the company woman, Rousey said she'd do whatever the UFC needed. But the question clearly incensed UFC president Dana White, as he got into a heated conversation with Rogan afterward in the Octagon. Later, White explained that his issue was with the UFC's production team that fed Rogan the question and not Rogan himself. In the end, Rousey got a nice little break from action and will return from her hiatus on Feb. 28, 2015, to defend her title against Cat Zingano.

2. Leslie Smith gets her ear torn half off by punch (Nov. 15)
Chalk this one up to morbid curiosity. Smith was in a slugfest with Jessica Eye at UFC 180 when Eye caught Smith with a right that gruesomely split Smith's left ear open. The wound would eventually lead to a doctor stoppage, as blood continued to stream down Smith's face.

3. Cung Le tests positive for HGH, receives ban from UFC (Sept. 30)Cung Le
When a fighter posts a picture like the one Le posted on Instagram (shown at right), he's leaving himself open for criticism – and potentially added drug tests. After seeing the photo of Le, opponent Michael Bisping requested that the UFC do both blood and urine testing for their fight. The resulting positive tests (excess level of Human Growth Hormone) led to: a nine-month suspension; an additional three-month suspension arbitrarily added on by 'UFC Senior Management' after the initial suspension; the UFC rescinding its suspension of Le after it was reported that Le's tests had been botched; Le demanding an apology from the UFC; and, perhaps as a byproduct of the incident, Le joining a class-action lawsuit against the UFC for alleged 'illegal market monopolization.' Le is still under contract with the UFC.

4. MMA fighter taps out instead of beating on opponent (May 21)
Meet Good Guy MMA Fighter Mike Pantangco. The amateur lost in extraordinary fashion in May. Pantangco appeared to be teeing off on Jeremy Rasner during their Prison City Fight League bout when he kneeled down and tapped out, signaling his submission and forcing the referee to step in and hand the win to his opponent. When asked why he did it, Pantangco said, "We don't get paid, and I know that the only thing [that'd happen] is him to go to the hospital or get hurt. I just [felt] terrible so I'm just going to give him the win."

5. Paul Heyman: Brock Lesnar fought at 50 percent in the UFC (Aug. 7)
Thanks to his wrasslin' background, Lesnar is one of the most popular fighters to have ever stepped into the Octagon. So when Lesnar's manager/friend Paul Heyman opined that Lesnar was '50, 75 percent' when he fought Alistair Overeem in 2011, it resonated. Heyman didn't completely rule out Lesnar returning to the Octagon, but he did say that the star is happy with his current WWE deal.

6. Paige VanZant set to become youngest woman in UFC history (Aug. 7)
The 'Next Ronda Rousey' label gets slapped on pretty well all young, attractive and talented female MMA fighters and VanZant, 20, is the latest to take up that mantle. After being told she was too young to appear on "The Ultimate Fighter" due to the presence of alcohol in the house, she became the youngest woman to ever fight in the UFC on Nov. 22. Her Octagon debut against Kailin Curran was a seesaw affair that ended with VanZant earning a TKO win at 2:54 of the third round. It was recognized as the Fight of the Night and showed VanZant is much more than a pretty face.

7. Mark Hunt drops 20 pounds, delivers massive KO (Sept. 20)
Hunt has an admitted habit of ballooning up in weight in between fights and he apparently came dangerously close to missing the heavyweight limit of 265 before his fight against Roy Nelson on Sept. 20. Hunt reportedly weighed 284 the day before the weigh-in, but he worked off the weight and came in at 264 officially.

8. Bobby Lashley: Separating fact from fiction (Oct. 24)
Fans love their crossover stars. Our Q&A showed another side of the WWE star/MMA veteran.

9. MMA legend Anderson Silva delivers delusional quote (Jan. 13)
After two equally shocking losses at the hands of UFC middleweight champ Chris Weidman – the latter of which produced a devastating broken leg injury that put Silva's career in jeopardy – the Brazilian was seemingly struggling to cope. In a curious interview with Globo, Silva said he didn't think Weidman should consider their Dec. 28, 2013 bout a win because "it was an accident and I'm pretty sure I would have won the fight." He went on to brag about the power of the kick that broke his own leg, which, to borrow a line from former Cagewriter Elias Cepeda, is tantamount to bragging about bruising a guy's fist after he knocked you out cold.

10. Ronda Rousey-Gina Carano – the fight that never happened (July 18)
Fans also love their superfights and a Rousey-Carano matchup is a bout most would embrace in short order. White was confident he could get Carano to sign a contract that'd make it happen, but several months later, the superfight's likelihood is bleak. Don't hold your breath for a Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano UFC showdown. (Getty)Rousey is scheduled to fight Cat Zingano on Feb. 28 and Carano opted to book another movie deal that should keep her busy for the foreseeable future. White hasn't closed the door completely, but this quote from September doesn't inspire confidence: “(Carano) is the hardest human being we've ever dealt with. The problem is she allows herself to be handled by these Hollywood (expletive) idiots. In dealing with her people, I don't know if it can be done.”

TJ Dillashaw Will be “Rooting” For Jose Aldo Versus Conor McGregor

TJ Dillashaw relayed not that long ago that he wants to fight Jose Aldo “so bad”, but evidently he’ll be cheering for the UFC featherweight champ when he throws down with Conor McGregor. Conor McGregor wins spectacularly, earns title shot against Jose Aldo

Conor McGregor guaranteed himself a featherweight title shot and a nice paycheck Sunday with his performance in a one-sided rout of Dennis Siver at TD Garden in Boston.

But when McGregor did a flying leap over the cage and raced toward champion Jose Aldo, seated ringside, making threats and shouting epithets, the passion for and the significance of the upcoming title fight increased monumentally.

It now stands as one of the most hotly anticipated fights of the year, one that will draw a massive crowd and guarantee each of them a massive payday.

McGregor was an 11-1 favorite over Siver, but it was like he was an 11,000-1 favorite. He was completely composed and in control and ruthlessly broke Siver down and tore him apart.

The end came at 1:54 of the second round, shortly after McGregor landed a straight left that sent Siver staggering backward onto the canvas. McGregor mounted him and quickly finished it, forcing referee Herb Dean to wave it off.

Siver was cut, his face full of welts and bumps and looked as if he was mugged by a gang of thieves.

McGregor had boasted before the fight that he'd easily outclass Siver and stop him early. He went out and methodically did just that, raking Siver consistently with straight left hands and hurting him with kicks to the legs and body.

His only shortcoming on this night was in coming up a bit short of a win in just two minutes. But he even had an answer for that.

"I'll tell you, I said two minutes, but I meant two rounds," McGregor said, deadpan, in the cage not long after he'd scored the biggest win of his career.

Conor McGregor, of Ireland, celebrates a win against Dennis Siver, of Germany, after their featherweight fight at UFC Fight Night, Sunday, Jan. 18, 2015 in Boston. McGregor won via 2nd round TKO. (AP Photo/Gregory Payan)McGregor turned the featherweight division on its head almost from the moment he made his UFC debut on April 6, 2013, when he blew out Marcus Brimage.

He clearly has a quick wit and the gift of gab and an innate sense for promotion.

He was calling himself the best fighter in the division as soon as he joined it, and it was hard to know what to make of him. But with each successive performance, he showed that he is no joke as a fighter.

That is hardly a prediction he'll defeat Aldo, who not only has won 18 bouts in a row over a more than nine-year span, but stands among the greatest mixed martial arts fighters ever.

McGregor hasn't been in with a big, tough, grinding wrestler, and it remains to be seen how he'd do against that sort of fighter. But Aldo is the consummate striker and isn't going to look to take McGregor down, so stylistically, the bout sets up as an intriguing stand-up battle.

Even former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar, who has a legitimate claim to the next title shot at Aldo, ahead of McGregor, came away impressed.

Working as an analyst on Fox Sports 1, Edgar said, "McGregor lived up to the hype. He looked phenomenal."

Aldo did his part by the way he handled himself post-fight. Aldo has often come across as a dour and angry man, unapproachable, and always seems to have a chip on his shoulder.

But when McGregor hurled himself over the cage and stood a few feet away, yelling at him like a lunatic, Aldo showed the guts of a burglar. He didn't flinch. He didn't move. He simply stood and smiled.

Jan 18, 2015; Boston, MA, USA; Dennis Siver after his loss to Conor McGregor (not pictured) during a featherweight bout at UFC Fight Night at TD Garden. (Bob DeChiara-USA TODAY Sports)And while virtually everyone else who had seen McGregor was impressed, Aldo saw things a bit differently.

"That's normal to me," Aldo said. "He's a joker and a court jester to me. All I do is laugh at him."

It will likely be held in May in Las Vegas and figures to have intense interest and a heavy build-up.

McGregor played his win for all it was worth and hurled insults at Aldo once he returned to the cage.

"I'm going to hand him my spit bucket, and then stand back and wait for him to spit shine the belt so it's ready for me to take it," McGregor said.

He'll have to deal with his share of haters because of his outspoken manner. And it's almost certain he'll go into the fight with Aldo as an underdog.

Aldo isn't going to be intimidated and it's going to take a Herculean effort to defeat him.

McGregor, though, proved on Sunday he belongs in the equation as the most deserving choice for Aldo's next challenger.

His critics can run down a list of all the things he hasn't done, but he's won five fights in a row, finishing four, and he's looked increasingly better each time out.

Aldo may shut his mouth for good, and it would be no shock if Aldo won going away.

Aldo is that good; he does that to most men he faces.

But you know what? McGregor is plenty good, too.

UFC champ Jon Jones enters rehab after testing positive for cocaine

LAS VEGAS – UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones announced Tuesday that he has entered a drug treatment facility.

The announcement came just days after Jones defeated Daniel Cormier on Saturday in the main event of UFC 182 at the MGM Grand Garden in a five-round decision that left many considering him as the greatest mixed martial arts fighter of all time.

But in a random drug test given to him on Dec. 4 by the Nevada Athletic Commission, Jones tested positive for benzoylecgonine, the main metabolite in cocaine.

The Nevada commission follows the World Anti-Doping Agency code and benzoylecgonine is not banned out-of-competition. As a result, the commission was unable to penalize Jones or prevent him from fighting despite knowing of the positive test.

It conducted a follow-up test later in December that Jones passed. Yahoo Sports was unable to get the exact date of the second test that Jones passed.

Jones released a statement to Yahoo Sports through his attorney acknowledging his problem.

"With the support of my family, I have entered into a drug treatment facility. I want to apologize to my fiancée, my children, as well as my mother, father, and brothers for the mistake that I made. I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously. Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy."

The UFC released the following statement in regards to Jones:

“We support UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones’ decision to enter a drug treatment facility to address his recent issue. While we are disappointed in the failed test, we applaud him for making this decision to enter a drug treatment facility. Jon is a strong, courageous fighter inside the Octagon, and we expect him to fight this issue with the same poise and diligence. We commend him on his decision, and look forward to him emerging from this program a better man as a result.”

Nevada commission chairman Francisco Aguilar said the commission is going to discuss out-of-competition drug tests at its next meeting and whether to break from the WADA code in similar situations.

"I am pleased that Mr. Jones is addressing this issue and seeking help for his problem," Aguilar said.

The test given to Jones was analyzed for anabolic agents, peptide hormones, growth factors and related substances, beta-2 agonists, hormone and metabolic modulators, diuretics and other masking agents, stimulants, narcotics, canabinoids and glucocorticosteroids.

This week, The Sunday Junkie got reams of entries on the potential fight between the UFC's middleweight and welterweight champs, which could be in the works after St-Pierre's win over Carlos Condit at UFC 154.

But this week's Canadian winner, "A-shock," from London, Ontario, has some interesting ideas on how to infuse new life into the UFC's reality series, "The Ultimate Fighter."

Katana for Survival?

I was thinking about picking up a Katana in case of a SHTF(shit hits the fan) scenario. I was thinking I could probably take out any potential threats to me or my families safety using a sword.
