UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey is making her first big splash in Hollywood this summer, beginning with her role in The Expendables 3 action movie. And, according to a recent interview, Rousey is bringing the same drive and focus to film-making that she has to Olympic Judo and to MMA.
"I didn't grow up wanting to be an action star. I just didn't think it was in the cards," she admitted.
Now that it's a possibility, I'm like, 'Screw it, I don't give a [expletive]...If 'The Rock' can become the world's highest-grossing actor, I can have that same goal...I want to be the highest-grossing actor in the world some day."

On Saturday, the UFC will return to Dublin, Ireland, with a big UFC Fight Night card headlined by Irish breakout star Conor McGregor taking on The Ultimate Fighter 14 winner Diego Brandao. Also featured on the card will be Iceland's top fighter, Gunnar Nelson fighting Zak Cummings in a welterweight showdown.
McGregor and Nelson are seemingly as different from one another as can be but are also close friends and teammates. We've already told you how we think Anderson Silva vs. Nick Diaz will turn out but now a much more expert voice has given his take on the UFC super fight, scheduled for early 2015. Nick Diaz's coach Cesar Gracie is confident in his pupil's ground skills but believes that the fight against "The Spider" will take place entirely on the feet.
From there, Gracie believes that Diaz will be able to touch Anderson up and put him away, in large part, because the former middleweight champion's legendary chin isn't quite as strong as it used to be. "I believe it’s going to be a standup fight the entire time," Gracie said in a recent interview.
"Nick is better on the ground, his jiu-jitsu is better, but I believe it’s going to be a standup fight and it won’t last five rounds. I think it will be over before five rounds, someone will get knocked out.
"Nick is hard to knock out, he was knocked out only once in the beginning of his career...Anderson is bigger than Nick, but he’s turning 40 now and his chin is not the same anymore. If Nick can get in there and punch him, I think he wins this fight. Nick will turn 31 in August, he’s just a kid. Anderson is fast and dangerous. I don’t know who’s going to win, but I know it’s going to be a good fight."
Silva will indeed be just a couple months from 40 when he fights Diaz but, more importantly, he has been separated from consciousness in his last two fights. In his first fight against Chris Weidman, Silva was finished by KO.
In their rematch, Silva was briefly knocked out by a right hand from the clinch in the first round, before getting woken back up by his head hitting the ground and/or Weidman following up with punches on the ground. Do you think Silva will be able to stay away from Diaz's punches?

Donald Cerrone wanted Khabib Nurmagomedov, and he got him. At least for 20 minutes, he did.
UFC president Dana White told reporters in Dublin, Ireland, Friday that the company had reached a deal to pit the unbeaten Russian against the always exciting Cerrone, who stopped Jim Miller in the second round in Atlantic City, N.J., on Wednesday, against each other on the main card of UFC 178.
But 20 minutes after all parties agreed to the deal, White said, matchmaker Joe Silva got the terrible news: Nurmagomedov injured a knee and had to pull out of the fight.
That leaves Cerrone, who has been on a roll with four wins in succession. During that span, he has won a fight night bonus four times, getting Knockout of the Night, Submission of the Night and two Performance of the Night honors. He's earned $200,000, at $50,000 apiece, for those bonuses.
Cerrone is still likely to fight on UFC 178, but no opponent was announced.
White had no details of the extent of Nurmagomedov's injury. Trainer Javier Mendez of the American Kickboxing Academy did not know, either. He said the 20-0 Nurmagomedov normally spends the last month of camp with his team.

The one thing that was guaranteed after a massive crowd turned out for Conor McGregor Saturday in Dublin, Ireland, following weeks of frequently over-the-top trash talking that everybody and his brother would want to fight him if he won.
McGregor stopped Diego Brandao in the first round and, predictably, heard a lot of fighters calling his name.
Dustin Poirier, though, is the one who will get the call. The UFC announced the bout Tuesday on its Twitter page. It will occur at UFC 178 in Las Vegas, where Jon Jones will defend his light heavyweight title in the main event against Alexander Gustafsson.
The Jones-Gustafsson bout is a rematch of one of the greatest in UFC history, and one that had a close and somewhat disputed ending.
But with McGregor's ability to talk, his fight with Poirier won't be overlooked, that's for certain. Seconds after the fight was official, McGregor alluded to his abiity to draw a crowd on his Twitter page.
Unquestionably, McGregor is a fighter on the rise and will attract some fans to the Las Vegas show. How big he'll go over outside of Ireland remains to be seen.
McGregor is now 3-0 in the UFC, with wins over Brandao, Max Holloway and Marcus Brimage. On Monday, voting media members ranked him 10th in the featherweight division. Poirier, though, is ranked sixth and on a three-fight winning streak.
Poirier, who is 16-3 overall, last lost to Cub Swanson in 2013.

Anderson Silva is on the line with a plethora of media members, all who want to know what's it been like to be Anderson Silva this past year, and what his mind set is leading into his come back fight against Nick Diaz, now scheduled for early 2015. Silva, of course, is the record-setting and long-time king of the UFC's middleweight division.
He won sixteen straight UFC bouts before running into Chris Weidman in his last two bouts. In the first fight, Silva got knocked out and lost his belt.
In the immediate rematch with Weidman, Silva got dropped once more in the first round, but recovered just long enough to make it to a second round where his leg was shattered when the new champion blocked a kick from the Brazilian.
Silva had lost two straight fights, and lost them violently. What's more, he was middle-aged (ancient in the fight world) and faced a grueling recovery process just to be able to walk again.
Silva wasted no time in promising that he'd return to the cage, and he's appeared to shatter every expectation of how fast he could heal and recover his injured leg. He's cleared to spar again and has reportedly been training hard.
Now, he's even got the super fight with Diaz inked. There have surely been dark days for Silva in the past year, but he says he never once considered retiring as a result of them.
“Retirement never went through my mind,” he says through a translation by co-manager Jorge Guimaraes.
“What’s happening right now is I'm just dying to return to the Octagon and do the thing I most love in my life. That's what I want right now."
Like all professional athletes, Silva will one day have to at least scale back doing what he most loves in the world. "The Spider" seems intent on pushing that date as far back as possible, however.
He says that his leg is almost nearly back to normal, and that it will be completely ready by fight night against Diaz. “I’ve been doing a lot of physical therapy, and right now, it’s at 95 percent and improving. On the day of the fight, it’s going to be 100 percent," he insists.
As for his legendary kicks, which are precisely what got him injured so badly late last year against Weidman, the fighter admits that he's still not quite recovered his confidence there. “I’m not kicking as hard as I usually do," he admitted.
"I’m going to wait to kick hard on the day of the fight."
Whether or not Silva will be able to make that mental leap remains to be seen. As does how far he will take his come back.
Silva's most ardent fans will clamor for him to make a title run, but the man himself knows it is foolish and premature to talk about belts again. For now, it would appear, Silva is fighting again simply because he loves to - in stark contrast to his opponent.
"Right now, [a title shot] is not my priority but if I have the credentials to fight for the title, I'll be more than glad to do it," he explains.
"At this point, I want to feel my legs walking and my movement. My main priority is to see how I perform."
As for his fight with Diaz, Silva correctly believes that it is a perfect fight for him to come back to. In Diaz, he won't just face a much smaller fighter, who is also coming off of two straight losses, but a fighter who has always been willing to stand and trade strikes.
Silva may not know if he can become the greatest fighter in the world once more, but he is confident that he can at least still put on a great fight. “This fight has all the ingredients to be one of the best fights of all time," he says.
"It's going to be excellent for the fans. We both have not stepped in the Octagon for a while. Nick is a guy that walks forward and likes his boxing. If he stands with me, the fans can expect a great fight."
